  • The Victim Assistance Training (VAT), hosted by the New Mexico Crime Victims Reparation Commission (NMCVRC), is a comprehensive five-day program taking place October 20–24, 2025, in Albuquerque, NM.

Created especially for new victim advocates and professionals entering the field of victim services, this training offers a strong foundation to help you grow in your role and make a meaningful impact. Over the course of the week, you will:
        •    Develop a deeper understanding of the victim experience and the criminal justice process.
        •    Learn how to support victims compassionately and effectively while honoring their rights.
        •    Explore the wide range of services available and gain tools to accurately assess and respond to victims’ unique needs.

All training expenses are covered by NMCVRC (with the exception of a $100 fee to secure your spot, your travel to and from the venue, and meals outside scheduled hours).

Because seating is limited, we encourage you to apply early. If your application is approved, both you and your supervisor will receive an email confirmation, along with a request for additional details (dietary needs, accessibility requests, and your $100 payment).

Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis, with all applicants notified of the committee’s decision no later than September 30, 2025.

This is your opportunity to join a dedicated community of advocates, build essential skills, and take the next step in your career supporting victims in New Mexico.

  • To be eligible for a scholarship, applicants must have fewer than two years of experience in the Victim Advocacy field.

  • If accepted into the program, each participant agrees to the following requirements:

    • Complete registration by October 7 and pay the $100 fee to secure your seat.
    • Attend the training in full from October 20 - 24, 2025.
    • If traveling more than 50 miles each way to the training, applicants agree to stay at the designated host hotel October 19 - 23rd, 2025.
